Problem with CD changer

I own a 1993 explorer sport with the JBL premium sound package. The CD unit runs when the radio is on. Has anyone else experience this problem, and does anyone have a fix to correct this condition. I understand that this was a problem with these Ford radios but no one seems to be able to help at the radio shops. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the cd also work when you want to hear just the cd?
If the catridge is empty, can you listen to radio without the cd playing over it?
Do you know Where the factory amp, if there is one, is located?

CD changer problem

Yes, the CD does work when you insert a CD. Once a CD disk is ejected the player continues to operate on an intermitent basis disrupting the radio each time the event occurs. I have taken the unit apart, made sure all connections are sound and good. The problem, still exists. The amp and sound quality are excellent. If I could just get the CD from operating at the same time the radio is in operation. Help!
