I am going to try to use 4.6l dual cam heads for my single cam 5.4l. I found crown vic heads with dual cams/four valves a cylinder. beside the fact the intake has to be modified, what else would i need to do?
What kind of Crown Vic did you find with 4V heads? I've never seen one.
You will need to find a Lincoln Navigator that came with a 5.4L 4V engine. You will need intake, wiring harness, fuel lines, exhaust, complete timing chain assembly, computer, etc. I'm not sure if you can bolt 4V heads on a 2V block. You also may have to change pistons as well.

wow, if you have to go that far, why not just swap the whole motor in and bolt it up to the existing tranny?
um.....the 1996 crown vic had a 4.6l with dual cam heads w/ 4 valves a cylinder. with some minor modifications(and i dont know what they are) they bolt right up to any 5.4. inside the heads of the 4.6 4v the two cams are chain driven together. its a seperate chain. the 4.6l crown vic heads a just like the heads of a 4.6l cobra v4. so if your not loaded with cash but have brain to figure out complex but cheap upgrades it make since. by the way the only reason the 5.4 has to use a 4.165 inch stroke is becuase any time you use overhead cams you lose peak torqe and hp. the 3v 5.4l in the new fords have much more in comon with honda engines then they do any pushrod v8. the old 5.4 suffers from breathing becuse of small bores and shrouded valves. thus ford add more valves
Still sounds easier to strip a totaled Navigator that would have all of the parts that you need.
I've never seen a DOHC Crown Vic. Even the Police package use a 2V engine.
The closest thing I've seen to a factory DOHC vic is the Marauder. If such a beast exists I would like to know. A quick Google didn't find anything. Maybe your thinking of the Lincoln Mark VIII?
no crown vics in the 90's had DOHC from the factory! i believe there were a few aftermarket shops that installed them for a hefty price tag...kenny brown, i think was one. Only the lincoln continental, Mark VIII, and the cobra had the DOHC
search for fords "super stallion" :and it wasn't a crown vic.....sorry about that, anyways i could use a navigator motor, no problem, but i still want to use 4v heads,
