I have a 2003 Expedition XLT that did not come with fog lights. I want to add factory fog lights but Ford says that there is no kit available. I remember reading a post somewhere about buying the parts seperately ( left and right light assy. and new headlight switch ) and installing them. I have seen the wires going to each side under the bumper so it should not be too hard. Does anyone have more information or other ideas?
Provided all the wiring is present from the switch to the Fuse Box, to the fog lamps and you install a fog lamp relay, it should be no problem provided the bumper has a place to mount them. You could start by getting the switch and relay and test for power to the pigtail terminals up front. If you have power all the way then just purchase the lamp assemblies with mounts. All in all it could prove to be rather expensive compared to a kit.
I did a little research in the owners manual and found the location of the fog lamp relay and fuse. When I checked the fuse panel I was happy to find that both were already installed. I went ahead and ordered the new headlight switch and both of the fog lamps. The headlight switch was very easy to remove from the dash with a flat blade screwdriver inserted into a small slot on the bottom of the switch. The switch is only held in with spring clips. The fog lamp assemblies came with bulbs so all I had to do was remove the blanks in the bumper and install the lamp assemblies and plug in the wires. They work great and the whole job only took about twenty minutes.
Next week I should be getting my new Katzkin leather seat covers installed.
