well you certainly could not press the pinion bearing with a block of wood ..lol, you mean the bearing races right, or the yoke? I had to use 10lb sledge on the pinion yoke to install with a black of wood spanning all the way to the trailer receiver frame. Several hundred blows with a hammer later..........
10 ton puller could not do it(OTC 10 ton portable arbor press with bearing separator attachement) this attempt on a ford 10.25-3.73 pinion shaft bearing. Went to the machine shop, was referred to the auto parts store (30 ton press) $30.
and I like the 18,000 miles part, that gives me hope I did not damage mine too bad, it's sounds OK. any other car I ever worked on have a vibration afterward..lol
