Front diff protection?

Recently picked up my 99 F250 and while changing the fluids, noticed the bolt on the bottom of the front diff was ground almost all the way off. Also there are steering components and oil cooler lines down there.

Are there any guards or anything I can buy that would cover and protect that area?

skid plates will cover the most but they can be a pain.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Neither of those sites carried anything for my F250 though.

Crane makes just about the strongest diff cover out there.

Those look good, but yeah I'm more looking for a skid plate of some sort. Maybe I'm just being over paranoid if there isn't one readily available.

So you want something that bolts to the axle and sits below the pumpkin? Why? Loss of clearance and it wont protect a head on collision. Those crane covers have recessed bolts and a smooth cover surface.

Yes, bolts to the axle, but goes all the way up to the bumper. Maybe it's just something with my truck, but it seems like the oil lines and steering rack are pretty exposed down there. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow to explain better.

best thing to do is lift it and get some meat under there....that way all the short obstacles you will just glide right over

Haha, yeah as much as I'd like to lift it. It's my work truck first and play truck second. Loading lumber onto it is hard enough at it's current height.

Know what you mean with that. Everyone thinks I should lift my SD too, but when you have to load stuff in the bed it is not fun with 8 or even a 4-inch lift. As to the protection that you looking for, would Off-Road's project truck Great White be what you looking for?

Other than that you are pretty much looking for just diff protectors and maybe steering relocation kits to get things up out of the way without going to a lift.

Yeah, that piece of metal coming down from the bumper guard would work. I'm guessing that's a custom piece though no? Still leaves the steering stuff open, but at leeast would cover the more critical oil lines.

Like I said earlier though, if it were more of a problem there would probably be a solution already so maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Ok, did a quick search and found this that might work. http://www.autoaccessconnect.com/bulbarforf2f.html

The bull bar with the optional skid plate.

Yeah that is a custom front bumper and skid-plate on Great White, but I would think some desert racing oriented manufacturer might have something you could use. Maybe this:

http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/html/guard.html

I don't getting into stuff like what you are so I haven't looked for protection on my rig. My plow frame kind of takes care of protecting my front. However I am starting to look for some kind of grill guard that would protect my front with the deer around here without interfering with my plow. I have hit three deer this year with my Range Rover and if it hadn't been for the grill/brush-guard I would have had some serious damage to it.

Keep me posted on what you find and finally put on.

I'm confused, are you talking about protection for the diff, or protection for under the bumper? If you look closely at the picture of the bullbar, the diff has a skid plate on it. That's a Conn-ferr skid plate axle truss combo. They're not exremely heavy duty, but I think they are reasonably priced and look good too.

Here's a couple links for truss/skid plates
