my 95 F 250 PSD has 71K on her now with the original E4OD still in it.now that the great Wisconsin winter is starting to set in, i have noticed the trans acting a little different. when she is still cold the converter doesn't lock up like in the warm weater.it almost seems the temp gauge needs to start moving in order for it to lock. i take a little time for it to warm up before diving but, but doesn't reach operating temp till 5 miles down the road. is this a built in feature or is the trans staring to go? what was the problems with the early trannies?
i also read in another post, that you should not pull in OD, but with my 4.10s i would be pulling over 3 grand on the freeway. i pull a 29' fifth wheel once in a while and hope i am not killing the truck. by the way the truck is stock with no chip (yet).thanks for your input. jack k
The torque converter won't lock up until the transmission and engine warm up to a certain temperature. That's a feature to help the truck warm up quicker.
You should tow in overdrive unless the transmission is frequently shifting in and out of overdrive. That's what it says in the owner's manual. A lot of people don't agree with that, but I think Ford knows the truck better than they do.
