6.9 smoke
and old aquaintance had an 85 f250 for sale, price was right, took a chance. He said rings bad. Mechanic says smoke is injectors popping off too soon. truck smokes slightly when clutch is engaged, and quite heavily when under heavy acceleration. makes no difference if truck is loaded or empty, or at no load against the governor, still smokes. Black smoke except when clutch is engaged from stop, then it is more gray than black. tail pipe is heavily sooted up. if odometer is original, truck has either 103 or 203k. who is right? thanks in advance.

I'd probably lean towards the mechanic. If the combustion chambers are not hot enough, and it's over fueling, then you'll get light colored smoke and that COULD explain what your seeing.
Then again, I could be wrong also.
