Today I decided to re-rought the valve cover vent from the intake to the frame under the cab. I got done and went for a drive and noticed a lot of smoke comeing from the vent, my question is; is this common or is ther something wrong the reason for moving the line was to keep the oil resdue off thr turbo insides.
i have done it myself and yes it smokes quite a bit. just think you no longer have all that crap going into your intake charge.i have picts. in my gallery of the mod
Did you turn the valve cover around to vent to the rear? I was thinking of doing this mod also, but not sure yet. How much does it smoke exactly? Only occasionally, or will I have a constant smoke cloud behind me?
powerstroke250 my truck is a 2000 with 100,000 miles. I see someone talking about turning the valve cover, is it universal or do you need to swap both, if doing this will it make it smoke less.
guys, there is housing on the valvecover that is held on by two screws, it is the housing that you take off and turn around so the ontlet is pointing to the back of the engine compartment...take a look in my gallery i have pictures of this mod
wlihntr, got a quick side note as to where you run the line to. I want to run mine down to the exhaust and put a fitting in the exhaust pipe so it will vent there, but am scared of either getting exahust back up into valve cover or creating a vacume and pulling oil out through it. can this be done.

i thought about doing that as well, but after thinking that i would have to drill i hole and weld on a fitting plus having the same concerns you are having about getting exhaust in the vent, or like you said it sucking oil out, i just ran it down the frame on the drivers side and it exits behind the rear axle. it is close enough to the tailpipe that it just looks like exhaust smoke
You also need to plug the hole on the intake so it doesn't suck in crap from the engine rcompartment. HeatStroked is making a few intake manifold adapters to fix this. Also, I think he put a filter on the end of the ccv line to reduce smoke.

what you want to do is take that plastic housing out and replace it with a piece of 4" stainless steel pipe( a piece of left over 4" exhaust works great)
i saw a pict of heatstroked bracket, its sweet, but if you are not as good a fabracater as he is you can just put it in without a bracket.
