Oil Filter Fit
Hi, Just a question for you V10 owners. I picked up a 03 Ex last month with the V10. I was changing the oil and filter today. It had a ac delco filter on it very tight, I replaced it with a Motorcraft, My question is that there seems to be about a 1/8" gap or so from the bottom of the filter and the housing. is this normal or should it fit flush? I didn't notice the fit of the one I took off. I Started the truck and didn't notice any leaks. All my other vehicles I've had the filters always fitted flush and usually were able to hand tighten them and then just a 1/4 to 1/2 turn with filter wrench. . Any info would be appreciated.

thanks for the reply, The rubber seal is touching the mount, This was just the first oil filter I've even did that had a gap, all the other vehicles I've owned they alway were flush, Maybe this filter just has a larger seal on it. Thanks again for the reply

You shouldn't tighten the oil filter with a wrench - let the gasket come into contact with the base plate and then hand tighten. I've got a similar spacing with mine using the FL820s filter - so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
