Ok, I have heard a ton of diff theories from searching this site, what should I run in my mazda 5 speed with the 4.9? In winter it is really hard to get it to shift, but I don't want to mess it up by adding something that will shift easy but not protect.
the owners manual calls for atf, aloot of peope put in synthetic atf, I had really good results with synthetic blend, both performance and cost wise. Real easy.
As long as you're not leaking out, ATF (Or Synthetic/Blend ATF) is alright. ATF will be alot easier to shift in..I know how you feel, that clutch can be a bear all the way to school and then it just starts shifting nicely for me..unless I let the thing warm up a god-aweful amount.
I have gear oil in my transmissionr right now..and I don't have any troubles with it. The first couple shifts are tough..but then its good. Gear oil helps to cushion the synchro's if they are worn. You may try to post in teh tranny section...there are alot of great guys down there to help.
When I asked this..their concensus was for me to run Synthetic ATF..Quaker State SUV/Truck formulation was what alot of them spoke of.
