camshaft postition sensor affecting shifting??

I am in the process of trying to replace my camshaft position sensor, 96 ford taurus 3.0 with about 88,000 miles. about two weeks ago I noticed that every once in a while the car would shift very roughly from park to first and then sometimes hard between 1st and 2nd, can that at all be related to a bad camshaft sensor?? also, other than taking the car back to autozone, is there another way that I can clear the check engine light? Thanks!!

I doubt that the rough shifts are related the camshaft synchronizer but I suppose you will know more about that soon enough. Did you check the level of the ATF? When is the last time the tranny was flushed and the fluid replaced?

You can clear the trouble code(s) associated with the CEL by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes or so.

Thanks rockledge! I am headed home now to try to get that new sensor on, i'll start with that and then go from there. Glad to know that I can make that annoying light dissapear without making another trip to autozone! Thanks again...
