Guys I have a '97 AWD 5.0 Explorer and just recently the AC has not been getting cold. It won't cool down past the outside temps. I checked the connections and all seemed fine. I also did a pressure check and got 42 PSI so that seems ok. I noticed that the compressor is not kicking in. I was thinking of jumping the low pressure switch to see if the compressor kicks in and try to elimate some possiblities. Any suggestions or tips would be great.
Thanks,
Cleve

When you checked the pressure was the car running, max ac on and the fan speed set to high?? Also was the compressor running, you can tell you can see the clutch spinng.
Yea try to jump the low pressure side, make sure you have the gauge on it you dont want it to go below 20psi, you might still need to add a can of freon you want it to remain constant with the compressor between 25 and 30psi, but get the compressor running first. If jumping the comprssor works replace the switch, there pretty cheep, if you dont want to go to for i use this guy all the time for ac parts and freon, he has 2 differant switchs for your model one 10 somethign the other 16 something. www.stores.ebay.com/store=87680832
CLick the link then on the left hand side you will see store categories and click "Automotive A/C System Parts", you can also get the r134a from him for pretty cheep, 3 bucks if you already have the valve, lets us know what it turns out to be
