I've got an '87 Aerostar with a 3.0. I've been told by several sources that the symptoms it is showing that I should check the MAF sensor. The problem is that I don't know where it's located, or what it looks like. Can anyone help??
I'm not sure if any 87 car from Ford has MAF sensors?
If there is one, it would be mounted in the air intake tube, down stream from the air cleaner, and ahead of the throttle body. If you had one, you should inspect its fine wires for dirt build up, and, if there is some, carefully clean it off. Also, someone on this list recently found that his van ran better with the MAF sensor disconnected. We suspect that the engine computer is not operating properly.
hey, thanks for the info ! I talked to three different auto parts stores before NAPA confirmed its' existence on the '87's. But in the process of starting to remove it to test, I discovered that the van ran like new if I simply disconnected the MAF. Thanks again for the info!!
