I have an aftermarket Ford AC unit on my '78 250. What I am wondering (for restoring) is if the AC dash panel I have installed is the same one as would come standard and also if its in the same place. Mine is on the vent to the left of the glove box and underneath the vent is a inch wide panel with the control ***** and says Ford in the center.
The panel is all screwed up and I need to replace it.
Are there controls for each vent, one master control with the heater, or just on the 2 vents in the center (mine) on the factory ones? The control panel is what I need to replace.
Mine is on the middle vents. It seems that the metal below the vents was cut an inch or so longer so that they could fit the entire one-piece unit which is the two vents plus an inch strip at the bottom with two control ***** for the AC on wood paneling with the Ford logo in the center. Have you ever seen this aftermarket AC? My goal is really to find a replacement control panel for it.

I have the exact same thing for my A/C!!! I assumed that it was a dealer option, because the heater control doesn't have any A/C controls on it. Which reminds me, what should I use to seal the firewall holes for the A/C hoses? Thanks in advance! BTW, I also would be interested in locating replacement parts for our A/C system...
I guess the dealers had their choice of A/C systems to install, then? Mine doesn't look at all like the one in the picture above...Hmm, that means my goal is harder to reach then, I don't know how to find the dealer or the history of my truck.
the system you have was installed on trucks that only had heaters in them. if someone wanted ac in a truck that was on the dealer lot that didn't have it. they would have installed this unit. i have seen 2 types of those and the under dash unit. the nice thing about it is the whole thing was up behind the dash out of sight. i come across these units quit offten here in AZ. email me at my user name @WebTv.Net
My truck is a 73 F 100 custom. In english that means plain jane with no air. I have been researching my options as far as adding air. My truck came with a 240 and 3 speed. I now have a 460 and c6 in it. I have a set of brackets and pulleys for it that include the compressor, and idler pulley mounts. I also have a compressor. I was thinking of trying to find one of the small under dash units to put in mine. I think I saw one in a 65 Mustang one time. I was thinking of taking this route because I dont want to mess with the big box under the hood, and I don't have the cut outs in my dash for vents. Would it be possible for one of you guys with the dealer installed air to post some pictures of it? I would also like all the details I can get as to what hooks up where. Thanks in advance.
i would go with the dealer installed unit. with the mustang under dash unit it might be in the way of the floor heater vent. the dealer unit one will require a dash face with the ac vents. but the middle vent will have to be cut 1 inch lower for the fan and temp switch. and the ac unit it self is behind the glovebox out of sight. all you have to do is cut 2 round holes somewhere in the firewall to run the hose's to the compressor. and there's only 3 wire's to hook up. 1 for the ground, 1 to the compressor, 1 to the fusebox on the heater fuse. it goes there because you wont be using the heater when your using the ac unit. plus it's a 25 amp fuse. email me i have pics of the unit.

Does anyone have pictures/part numbers of their "behind the dash" air conditioner. The one that fits under the glove box and on top of the heater box. I have some but can't seem to get them posted. I am looking for replacement parts.
