Hey All.
Just got back from a 1200 mile springbreak roadfest in a 1997 2WD Explorer V8 (5.0). The plugs were replaced and the hesitation went away for the first 600 miles. Then the car sat for 2 days and I experienced a rough idle - almost like having a bad plug - chugga chugga and varied didle at a stop. It started fine and ran great on the hwy - >20 mpg. Got home and I still had the chugga chugga bad idle.
Never had the intake removed for cleaning, but did clean the MAF about 2 mos ago.
I have been checking on the IAC repair info and just checked mine. It looked like resistance and volts were in spec, but before I remove the IAC and inspect for carbon buildup, should I have a replacement gasket on hand?
Yes, I would get a new gasket. Either that or some RTV. It is usually good to use both,, that way you know you have sealed it, but you don't have to on the IAC. One or the other is good...
