Has anyone installed a front leveling kit on their truck. I would think it would be a simple project since there is not alot of parts to install but i am a begginer to the whole modifacation things. I dont know what tools i would need or if i need a spring compressor or what. If anyone has performed this mod please let me know how it went and if there was a noticable diff in the way the truck sits. This truck performance place said they would do it for 325.00 including the actual lift kit and labor. Is that a good deal or not. I personally like to try to do stuff myself but dont always have the tools for the job. Any suggestion or info would be helpful
No one can tell a thing, cause you didnt mention the vehicle...
but you shouldnt need a spring compressor to install. The installation will be like a small lift, except you wont need to get new shocks, probably not install new antisway bar links, lengthen your brake lines, etc. You will still probably have to replace the drop pitman arm, even though its only 2" or so. Your driveshafts will also be fine...
However you are going to have to replace the front springs or leafs...
A truck leveling kit is usually just some coil spacers and a new alignment. I bought some coil spacers for my jeep once for $25 for the set and installed them in just over 30 minutes. Now maybe that is a good price for a shop.....but it is still a ripoff. You can do the work yourself quite easily with simple tools and a jack and jackstands.
Thanks that is what i wanted to know because i didnt want to spend much money. Am i going to have to mess with the break lines or anything like that. I will need a cpring compressor right to get the spacers in place. If you could explain to me hoe to do it that would be great. if you wouldnt mind. Thanks
Probably won't neet to mess with brake lines until you go 4"+. The only possible problem I see is messing up your camber. I had to have new camber bushing installed on my 95 F150 after I installed 2" coils. Does your estimate include an alignment?
Mike
Personally, those spring compressors scare the crap out of me. When I installed long springs on my jeep, I just disconnected a lot of the mount to the axle and flexed it...then stuffed the springs in.
No it doesnt include the alignment. Do you for sure need one after you get the leveling kit. I have pics of the truck but i cant figure out how to put them on my information page. If anyone can help with that to ide appreciate it
