PBuzz,
One question in your qwest for the right intake. Is your truck still under warranty? I have the AIS and that's the reason I went with it. It has Ford's name on it and won't void my extended warranty.
I vote Tymar too. I don't have one 'cause I never heard of them 'till I found this site - but that's what I'd get now if I had to do it again!
I'll second that. I would have gone with the tymar, but didn't hear about it till I already installed a different one. I don't have the money to be able to through it out and get a Tymar, otherwise I probably would.
I would like to know what is so bad about the K&N filter? My friend has the stingerplus system from Banks which comes with a K&N style filter on his 01 F350. I would think if banks didnt think the stock unit could flow enough air they would change it out to a different system.

It lets plenty of air in, but it lets plenty of dirt in as well. There was just a thread on here a couple of days ago about a dusted turbo from a K&N.
The K&N is a cotton based filter. It can break apart in very tiny pieces and get sucked into the turbo, and also because it's reusable, it can break down over time. And in addition to that, the oil used in these types of filters can also get sucked into the turbo. Paper based filters (Tymar and AIS) are much stronger and are disposable. Once you reach the recommended replacement mark, toss them in the trash and throw the new one in and you're good to go. No doubts in my mind about the quality of my filter.
I too was concerned about warranty but I was more interested in efficiency, not performance. Other than the intake, the only thing I've done was the BTM and I'm very pleased with the sound and performance, which is minimal to none from the driver's seat, I did it for lower EGT's when towing the Vette.
If you tow much go for the AIS. If you don't care about EGTs go for the Tymar.
The Tymar doesn't make any major difference in EGT's. Even sitting at idle the air temps are usually no more than 20 degrees higher and when driving it takes in the air forces under the hood anyway. I've had absolutely no problems with temps and I tow in TX with plenty of 100+ degree weather.
