Low profile bed toolbox

I have been looking at the Delta low profile toolbox. Does anyone else on the board have a box, and which one do you have? Thanks in advance for the input.

I have a 2003 F250 SD 4X4 and was looking for a box. I read some posts here and found the "Highway Products" box. They are out of Medford Oregon. They have a lifetime warranty. I purchased one, it was delivered and I installed it. I am very pleased. You would be also. It has a light built into the lid.

I bought a Husky from Home Depot. It is not the cross bed type, but the chest type. I know that you usually get what you pay for, but this one was less than $200 and seems very well made.

I have no complaints.

Thanks for the input guys. The only criteria the box has to meet is low-profile, and a cross bed mount. I will need to be able to slide objects under the box. I will need to surf the web some more also, I like the black powder coated diamond plate.

I bought a low profile Delta and took it back. Because of the way the latch mechanism is made they were a pain in the butt and they had to be "messed with" to get them to latch/unlatch properly. Then, that only lasted a little while before they needed it again.

I got the Dee Zee low profile and have had better luck with it. I did have to add something to support the connecting rod between the latches to prevent it from binding under its own weight and preventing the latches from returning all they way back to their locked position, but since I did that it's really smooth. Got it at Tractor Supply.

As already said, you get what you pay for; especially in toolboxes it seems. To me, it looks like the extra money goes into the latches on the higher end boxes. For the most part, an aluminum box is an aluminum box. (I know, I know, those other boxes can be thicker stock and different materials. Just speaking in generalities) I thought I could save some money with the Delta, but ended up just buying the best that fit my budget.

Cokeman, you mind me asking how much you paid for the Dee Zee box? My friend just bought a used 99 PSD SD, and the original owner had a low profile box he got from the Tractor Supply store. I wonder if it is the same type. He like his a lot.

That is an awesome price. I am only going to use it to store my trow strap a small tool set, and jumper cables. I am not going to use it every day, maybe only go into it once a month. Main thing is a exterior that is contructed nice, and a good fit.

I got my Delta Low Profile Box a couple of month's ago from Parts Amercia, [Schucks Auto Parts] here in WA for $170. I also had to mess with the adjustment for the latches a little bit to make it close properly. It now closes easiley with one hand from either side of the truck. I'm very happy with it.

How does the deltas fit, and how are they held in place? I don't want a box that looks like it is going to fall in between the bed rails.

I also have the Delta low-profile. The instructions tell you how to adjust the mechanism if needed. Mine worked good as is. There is a little space between the box and the side of the bed. The top of the box sits about half way in on the rails. You can drill holes in the rails to mount. Not what I wanted to do, so I used 4- J hooks. They hold it plenty tight. Box looks great.....

The instructions on the Delta are for adjusting how the latch lines up with the catch.

Just to be clear. The mechanism I was talking about is the one in the handle to unlatch the lid. The handle just pushes a lever down that is supposed to contact a plate on another lever which should unlatch the lid. Mine was always in a bind because of the angles involved and the rotation of the first lever. The DeeZee's mechanism has all the pieces connected which eliminates the problems I saw with the Delta. That's my take on it anyway. Others may have had better luck with the Deltas.

I used j-hooks as well. A couple of reps from toolbox companies said that, down here in Texas, if you drill the holes in the bed and mount it that way, then the summer heat will warp the box enough to possibly crack or bend the bedrail. Made sense to me as that black box in the sun gets hot enough to raise a blister on ya if you're not careful and I know that aluminum will "move" some when heated and cooled.
