I have a 2000 PSD 4x4 extra cab (Completely Stock except 285 tires). We towed our trailer for the first time and I have questions. The trailer weights about 8,000 to 9,000 lbs. I towed the trailer in overdrive (flat land) but sometimes it took forever to shift into overdrive. I towed the trailer around 60-62 MPH. When I would let off the gas it would shift up and then once it was in overdrive it was fine. Would a chip or programmer help me out. I definetly want more power. I was also going to put 4" exhaust on. Does anyone have any suggestions
If you're going to chip get gauges, intake, and full exhaust including downpipe first. The chip alone could raise temps quite a bit, especially when towing.
Thanks for the info. On my way home I passed a PSD and it sounded great. When he took off from the light the exhaust had a loud whistle to it. Is this from a 4" exhaust system or a chip? Does anyones truck have this sound?
That was probably from having no muffler. Without the muffler you can really hear the turbo, and with a 4" exhaust and an aftermarket downpipe it's even more noticeable.
Most likely straight piped - but any exhaust with a different muffler from stock will gain you a little more noise. I have my 4" turbo-back exhaust straight piped and it sounds great! A hot chip will make the truck have a different sound to it too - at least mine does.
