i have a 1999 F-150 4.2 liter with a EDIS ignition system, i dont know what a coil pack is and i dont know where to look for one. i know that the green wire is suppose to go to the negitive terminal on the coil but there is no cylinder type coil. where does this green wire hook up to. thanks to all
thanks for your reply Mil1ion, there is a rectangle thing that the plug wires go to,im guessing that this is some sort of new dist. there r 2 sets of wires coming off of this, do the green tach wire go to one of these, if so which one, thanks again
I looked up some info for someone else awhile back on hooking a tach to a distributorless ignition. You have to have instructions for your specific vehicle, and sometimes special adapter boxes to hook them up. You don't have a distributor with one coil, so it doesn't hook up the same as in the old days. The info I got was on one of the tach manufacturers websites. Try to find your brand of tach and see if you can find their website. A lot of the smaller companies have been bought out by Mr Gasket, holley, etc., so you might look on the box to see if they are owned by another company. You can then find that companies' website.
You must get information for your vehical. Many of the new systems have a tach wire coming directly from the computer. On a distrubitorless system the coil pack takes the place of the coil and the distrubitor. You can find it by first finding a spark plug, then follow the spark plug wire back to it. Get the info for your 99, you most likely will find it is really easy when you get the right information.
thanks to all, i contacted autogage, they told me that i need to buy a tach adapter, which costs $120.00 go figure. nothing like the old muscle cars. they were quick and easy to work on. thanks again to all.
