Hey, I just bought an 88' f-150 4x4, and I want to clarify how to put her in 4x4, and 4 low, and back into 2wd! When my dad and I test drove it, we locked the hubs, then put it in drive, coasted at about 5-10 mph, and shifted into 4 hi. then to get into 4 lo, we tried putting it in park and nuetral and shifting into 4 lo, I don't remember which one worked but we got it, and did the same to get out, and back into 2 wd I think. could someone please explain the whole procedure, so that when I need to, I can do it right! thanks in advance,
ryan
With the hubs locked, you can go in and out of 4high at any speed. You must come to a complete stop to shift in and out of 4low. Putting the transmission in neutral or park is not requred, but may prevent slight grinding noises.
Yes, don't try to shift into 4L while moving and don't shift into 4H without locking the hubs (unless they are automatic hubs, but sounds like you have manual).
Hey, thanks fellas! I just wanted to know the correct wau to do it! gonna pick it up in about an hour! might have to run through a little hole on the way home, ya know, have to make sure the 4wd works and all! later, thanks
