High Idle

Hello,
The high idle on my 6.9 diesel doesn't work any more and I would like to know how to fix this. Any info on this would be greatly helpful.
Thanks

High Idle

On the 6.9 I believe there is a small electro-magnetic plunger that is activated by the engine temp. The plunger is located right on the front of the injection pump and will push against the throttle lever of the injection pump. You can check this out by hooking a 14 gauge wire to the positive terminal of the battery and touch it to the terminal on the plunger. You will have to relieve the pressure on the plunger by moving the throttle lever while touching the wire on the plunger. If the plunger comes out, it is ok. If it doesnt come out, the problem will be in the temp sensor. DO NOT START THE ENGINE TO DO THIS TEST. You wont even have to turn the key on because you will be taking electricity right from the battery (passenger side of the truck).

High Idle

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Dec-02 AT 01:16 PM (EST)]I have another question. Is the high idle plunger intergrated with the glow plug relay. I am asking because I have bypassed the glow plug relay so I don't keep on burning out the glow plugs. Does the high idle plunger work off the same temp sensor as the glow plugs?

I did the test as decribed and the plunger moves in and out just fine. So I am thinking if the glow plugs and the idle are on the same temp sensor I will just bypass this with a toggle switch.
Thanks for any help
