varying idle

when at a stop light my 92 explorer will idle at about 10000 rpm, then drop to about 400 and stall . It did this last fall, but not during the winter. Now it is doing it again. I replaced the o-2 sensors, now the computer is not kicking any codes. Any idea that i could try, the only other prob. is lack of horse power. Used to be lots before all this.

first off u mean 1000 rpm not 10,000 rpm

i would suspect:

plugs and wires
vacum line
MAF sensor (cleaning)
Modulator valve
bad head gasket or intake gaskets
fuel delivery system

does this do this only when driving or in park idleing

Yes I mean 1000 not 10000 sorry. I already tried plugs,wires, vacume lines. I replaced feul tank, filter, and sending unit in november. I dont have any fluid leaks,would that eliminate the gaskets or no. I was looking at other threads and was thinking about trying to clean the iac.

yea just got me thinking the iac would do that 2 try cleaning/replace it and see what happens

well my problem turned out to be that "iac". I wish I would have found this site sooner .you guys have a killer web site ,keep up the good work. Hopefully i can add a little bit more to the mix.. thank you guys ( jclj2003)

1996 explorer will not idle

What is "iac"? My 1996 Exploer is doing the same thing.

Idle Air Controller.... take a look at the sticky at the top of the forum for the repair info.

Iac Sticky

Pardon my French but what the hell is a sticky and where is it located. I am having the same problem and would like to know the location of the IAC valve. Thanks.
