Boxcar,

Do you tow heavy trailers or carry a load in your truck with your D range Revos?

I own a 8,000 lb travel trailer and will be replacing the factory 265 10 ply E range Firestones soon. I'm a tire non-expert and was told the 285 8-ply D range tires would not work as well with continuous heavy loads as compared to the 265 10-ply Es. Something to do with durability, heat, and plys separating under a continuous load.

To my non-expert way of thinking, if the D range weight capacity is more than your load, the tire should be able to take it. However, 2 extra plys may make the difference.

Regardless, I will be putting Revos on my truck when the time comes. My Jeep Cherokee has been great since it's Revos, and I'm sure my Super Duty will love 'em. I just need to decide if I stay at 265 Es or fill my wheel wells with bigger 285 Ds.

OK this tire thing is a bit confusing, I know only to me…. that notwithstanding.
I have 265 75R16 E on my truck now I want to go with a bit wider not necessarily taller at all and stay with the stock wheels, it must be E rated. They could be 1 inch taller but no more than that.
Which size do I go with??

Most Nittos are load ragne E and are oversized tires. Terragrappers are real quiet on road too.

The only thing that I've noticed is that the Nitto's don't seem to offer them in white letters but are alot cheaper than the bridgestone revo's I'm looking at.

I just replaced the Nitto TerraGrappler 305/70/16's on my SD last week. The tires looked and road great, but I was disappointed by the mileage. I got less than 25K out of them, and I rotated them regularly.

I replaced them with Cooper Discoverer ST's, which are much more aggressive, and look just like the Cooper's in the above post with pic. I went with the 285/75 load range D's, because I knew I would be disappointed if I went back to the 265 size. The D range 285's have a load capacity of 3305/tire, while the E range 265's have a load capacity of 3410. Close enough to justify the larger tire. The tires look and handle great, and have minimal road noise for such an aggressive tire. I paid about $635 out the door for all four.

I haven't checked my speedo yet to see how far off it is, since I had it adjusted to the larger Nitto's. I'm debating on purchasing the SuperChips programmer so that I can adjust it myself. My only hesitation is that I know I will want to install the Performance program, and with the price of gas, I'll never hear the end of it from the wife.

Bryan, I'd like to ask you a few questions about your truck bed. Could you e-mail me? Very nice BTW.

I just put some BFG A/T KO 305x70R16s on my F350 and I'm extremely pleased with them. I have stock suspension, but with X-springs up front, and I also used 16x8" wheels (4 inch backspacing). The tires are extremely quiet on the highway and I haven't noticed any steering issues. I'd highly recommend them! Check 'em out...
