I was wondering, if an item sold for the shown price and there is no "reserve" on the item....is it binding by law and ebay that that is the price it has to be sold at? For example, say someone was selling a set of 20" wheels and the starting bid is for only 500.00 and noone other than myself bid on it. The seller HAS to sell at that price, correct? Thanks for any help.
That is my understanding of it. Otherwise it shows that the reserve price has not been met. Some sellers do not put the "No Reserve" on as a banner. I didn't in mine and even though I said no reserve in the body I still had people email me about the reserve price.
But if it shows your bid and nothing about the reserve price - then the seller is obligated to sell unless there is some other stipulation mentioned in their write up.
Yes, according to how eBay works, all bids are legally binding. If you bid on those wheels and they only get $500 after the end of auction then the seller has to sell at that price. The only exception, as you know, would be if the seller had a reserve price set on the items. If you have any problems and the seller refuses to sell, even if you had won the auction then you can contact eBay and they'll help you out.

of course, you would never go to court to pursue it...too expensive. The seller may back out on you anyways, and all they really risk is a warning from E-bay (unless they repeatedly back out) and you could give them negative feedback..but ultimately if seller doesnt want to sell at the price, he may come up with some excuse..."they were stolen", "I pre-sold them locally"
I am very active on E-bay and have been burned more than once...however I think you can find great deals there, and its a great way to clean out the garage of old items...
