Got a 68 F100 with a destroyed rag joint. Is replacing this thing a complex task, or easy? Any suggestions on a new one? Looks like the replacement catalogs I have aren't cheap. Thanks
I replaced them before how are your cab corners . I loosen the column and let it lay on the seat unless you have help holding it take out two bolts under dash. I get mine at the parts store ,there are some that are made better than others i look for the ones that have the bigger pin to column fit.
P.S. If your cab corners are bad and you cant get them replace now you better get two because you will be doing it again!
Yes the rag joint is mounted to the steering box which is mounted to the frame soild the cab moves up and down and wears it out . o yeah i for got there is a clamp at the fire wall ( under the hood) it has one more small bolt to take lose.
Well i for got the most important thing . Welcome to ( FTE ) we have so many different stores here i would just shop a round . Also take a look under the hood of a truck that has one with the small pins that dont fit the column very tite get some one to rock the steering wheel back and forth you will see the play . One of the stores here at ( FTE ) may be of great help on this!
P.S. you may also check in to replacement cab corners .
My 4 wheel F-100 has a u-joint instead of rag. Have a needle bearing u on order. Should get rid of the play in it. Hope the new one has a zerk fitting on it.
