Post Speedometer, ABS light, and Overdrive "OFF" light

Needing some help. I have a 1999 F250 2WD with a 7.3L Powerstroke turbo diesel (101k miles). Two days ago while driving, my ABS light came on and now stays on. Later that afternoon, my speedometer began to work intermittently. Yesterday, my battery died and had I had to jump it. It started (barely) this morning. My ABS light is still on and my speedometer still works intermittently - in addition - my Overdrive "OFF" light on the gearshift flashes.

My suspicion is that the battery is unrelated to the other issues and that I am having trouble with a speed sensor or something. I am new to diesels and could use some help. I refuse to take it to a dealer and pay $ 300.00 for them to replace a $ 17.00 part (if it is that simple). Thanks.

Trey

I had a 94 E350 motorhome with the exact same symptoms. It was the rear speed sensor in the top of the differential, a $17 part like you said. It took 5 minutes to change and took care of the problem. I first read about the rear sensors on another site that dealt with motorhomes, but seems to be a problem with a lot of Fords vehicles. When I talked to the service manager at the local dealer, he said that he had never heard of that problem and would start his process of elimination by replacing the main comuter.............yea riiiiight

Same thing happened to my 99 Superduty. Go to the Ford dealership and get the part # F85Z-2L373-AB,Speed Control Sensor. It's only about $12.00. You only need a 3/8" socket to replace the part on the top of your rear diff. Save yourself a lot of money this way.
