Thanks in advance for the help, you people never disappoint!
This past weekend I finally figured out I had a bad ground to my back up lights, the only problem is it is very difficult to get them to light up. It is almost like something is not aligned right or the contacts are bad. (I am just guessing there are contacts) You have to wiggle the shifter around for them to light up. What needs to be fixed or replaced?? The truck is a 72 F100, 360, automatic C-6.
Thanks again!!
Fred
Look on the driver's side of the tranny where the linkage arm goes into the side of the tranny. Most Ford automatics will have a plastic switch bolted to the side of the tranny with 4 wires coming out. Two will be the neutral start interlock, and two will be the back-up lamps. I think the switch is slotted a little for adjustment, but if you have a lot of wear in the linkage, or your cab has dropped down a little because of a rusted front cab mount, you may need to fix that to get it right.
In my 69 Ford, the switch was mounted on the steering column. It works the same way as Franklin2 said. I had the same problem and just took the swith apart, cleaned up the contacts and it worked fine.
Once again the problem is solved!! The switch was located on the steering column so I cleaned it and then had the wife on lookout and got it adjusted and working. One thing I noticed is there is little margin for error on the adjustment. The backup lights are working great!!! Thank you both very much!!!!
