I've read a lot of the previous posts concerning this problem. I too just discovered that my passenger side rug is wet. The weird thing about is that the tranny hump is dry and the rug on the firewall is dry. The only thing that is wet is the floor pan and the side between the seat and the door. I removed the kick panel and pulled back the rug. I saw a plug in the floor that was a little wet, but it was more wet in the corner where the floor meets the side under the kick panel. Could this be a windshield leak or the dreaded body flex crack leak??
Another funny thing I found is that the head liner in the rear corner on the passenger side( upper left corner of the rear roof when looking back from the seats) is also wet. I had a brown paper bag in the side compartment, below the corner and the bag was soaked. The bottom of the side compartment was dry. Now where could this leak be?? I hate water leaks!!
Look at the back end of your rain gutter. Broncos are notorius for the body cracking from the end of the rain gutter to the back edge of the B pillar. There used to be a repair kit for this but last I heard it is no longer available. I helped my bro fix his and I will soon need to do mine, but what we did is weld the crack with a mig welder, ground it smooth, primered then painted it. Luckily mine havent started leaking yet but I am sure they will soon enough. That crack will allow water to run down the inside of the B pillar, and soak the carpet just below it and the water will then run forward from there.
The passenger side rug problem is most likely due to the seal having rotted away where the heater hoses pass through the firewall, and is very easy to fix with silicone.
Thanks to this board, I fixed my water leak. It was coming in through the cracked caulk on top of the vent box on the firewall. I also found some loose body seam filler, removed it and plugged it up with rope caulk. Took the hose to it and no leaks!!! I had to remove that factory floor covering under the rug since it was water logged and the adhesive was loose. So now the rug sits right on top of the metal floor.
