Original battery life?

My 1999 F150 still has the original battery. I was thinking it may be time to replace it but it still starts the truck fine. What is the average life of a factory battery?

3-5 Years, I had a BXT-65-650 from the factory in a 93 Ranger. It was still in it when I traded it last month. Started every time this winter and it was 14 degrees below zero before the wind chill factor one day, and not much warmer on the days surrounding.

My truck was built 6/96. I had to replace the battery about 6 months ago. 3 months later, I had to replace the battery in my wife's 02 TrailBlazer. Wish I could've got a Motorcraft for it too.

About 5 years sounds right. Usually a battery will fail 1 month after the warranty runs out....

It really depends on your location, but you should get 3-5 on average.

had 2 charging problems that put a strain on mine plus I park on a decent grade every night which complicates things.... replaced mine last month and while it still started ok the 'magic eye' showed either white or red, never green. <<<BIG HINT>>> Stock battery was 650CCA.... the Costco size equivalent was $45 and 950CCA .... well worth it.

It really does depend on where you are located. My family has owned a lot of Fords and in the early 90's they would last two years. My 99 lasted 4 years. My wife’s 01 Expedition lasted two and a half, but there is a three year guarantee. The Expy has to be in the shop for another issue and I told my service advisor and they replaced it for free. He stated that they should last at least four years.

The very first thing I do when I buy a vehicle is dump the existing battery and replace it with a Die-Hard. Great batteries, worth their weight in gold.

Being as how you are in Hawaii and only have 25000 miles on in five years, your battery is on borrowed time. Batteries need exercise to last a long time and lots of starts with lots of miles in between is actually GOOD for a battery. It is those many starts with only a couple mile drive in between that screws up batteries early. I get years and years out of mine, and my wife gets about two when she is lucky. I drive seven miles to work and she drives just under one. Both Fords. Nothing but Fords for lots of years, so I have a pretty good test sampling for one manufacturer.

Wow I must have a big problem. I have a 2002 and am on the 3rd battery. And no mods that drain extra power are installed, I just have a cell phone and a radar detector.
