Unlike others...I'm interested in making my f250 diesel run as quietly as possible while still improving mpg and performance...what mods can be done to make the truck run quieter while NOT affecting performance?

Already did the microtuner...am considering the prepump mod although I don't think I have air in the lines at this point...the k&N filter makes a difference in the sound?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-14-03 AT 00:35 AM (EST)]There's a mod that takes a high pressure oil hose and connects the oil injection rails to make the pressure even. Lots of people claim that it's quieted their engine down quite a bit. Results are varied. You can order a kit from Tymar Performance. www.tymarperformance.com
Email Dale and he'll give you the price and information on it.
Another thing you can do is to add a diesel additive. I know that in the winter my engine runs louder on the winter diesel blend. I've been using Standyne lubricity formula which has worked quite well.
By the way, instead of K&N or AFE, I prefer the Tymar intake (also from Dale at Tymar performance). Opinions on air intakes are varied, but most will agree that K&N is not the best option for the turbo diesel.
How difficult is the tmyar AFE to install compared to installing the K&N filter. How does the K&N filter compare to the stock motorcraft paper filter? I can get the K&N filter on ebay for around $10 + $6 shipping where the tymar intake cost around $200 from what I can tell...thats a pretty big difference..how much of a difference in performance comes with that?

Tymar is $109 and uses a huge Donaldson filter. K&N will let dust into your engine, don't use it. It really spools up the turbo, and you don't have to worry about filtration because the Donaldson is one of the best filters on the market. Like I said, check out the diesel stop and do a search for Tymar. People over their swear by this setup. Easy to install too.
