Inlet fuel filter "sock" vs. second inline fuel filter?
As I have replaced virtually all the ignition and fuel components in my 81 F150, the process of elimination led to a problem with the inlet fuel filter (or sock) in my rear tank that was causing my engine to stall. And I was right. The sock had become completely removed from the sending unit and was just totally loose in the tank. Not only that, but it was falling apart and it's nylon fiber strands had been sucked into the lines and were clogging at the 3-port tank switch valve (which needs to be replaced anyway). The obvious thing to do is replace the sock, but I've heard of people forgetting the sock completely and instead installing a second inline fuel filter in the line coming right out of the tank.
So my question is, what are the pros and cons of either method? If anyone has any experience with the alternative process of going with the second inline filter, I'd greatly appreciate any info. Thanxx in advance.
