Sorry if this has been addressed before and I missed it but, does anyone know why the 6.0 in the SD pickup is rated so much higher (torque and horsepower) than in the Econoline?

Any vehicle with and E-Series (Van) nose configuration (hood) gets the VT365 because of the limited physical space and restricted air flow. No room or proper air flow for intercooler and larger turbo. The de-rating of the PSD engines in the E-Series trucks did not start with the 6.0 it was also the case with the 7.3L in the E-Series. All E-Series vehicles/cutaway cabs have had a de-rated PSD for many years.
Reliability should be better with the VT365 than the 6.0 PSD because the motor is setup to run at 2600RPM max and doesn't have all the fancy HP computer mods. The 6.0 PSD has a redline of 4100RPM.
On the left side of the page scroll down and click on "Blowin Smoke" after that page opens scroll down to the bottem were it lists previous issues and read "Fuel Economy" and "6.0 Power Stroke & Torqshift Trans". You should be able to get some additional general info here.
So if I understand correctly, blackhat620, you are saying the engine in the Econoline is in fact a different engine with a smaller turbo and, by the nature of the design, a less efficient intercooler? This makes me wonder if the Predator will work for the Econoline. It is advertised as being able to work on trucks, SUVs, and vans. I would think the data in the CPU would likely be significantly different if the engines are that different. Just the HP and Torque ratings indicate that there are differences. Makes me wonder.
I believe, and correct me anybody if I am wrong, that with the Predator, it is not a full flash, but takes the flash of your vehicle and modifies the original program and then uploads it. So what you get with the Predator is the program that saves your factory or dealer installed program, modifies a copy of that program for performance and then uploads the modified copy to your PCM.
The 6.0 PSD is the VT365 on steroids (Just as the 7.3 PSD was the T444E on steroids). Yes different turbo, intercooler, computer settings, lower redline, Hp & Tourque ratings. The Block, heads, pistons etc are the same.
Not sure about the Predator as i have not used one. You will need to talk to someone who has used the Predator and knows the differences between the VT365 & the 6.0 PSD (Might want to talk to Predator manufacture directly for your particular application).
The VT365 in the Econoline uses the same turbo, intercooler, and PCM as whats found in the International med dutys? If so, then it's actually downgraded quite a bit from commercial spec ( 230 HP / 620 FTLB), torque wise anyway. I imagine if it still uses International's original programming (which it should, if it's an actual VT365), than it is definately a more reliable engine than the 6.0L has so far proven to be.
The model on the engine sticker of my Econoline says A235 and the ratings are as follows: ADV. BHP 235@3300 RPM. LB-FT TORQ. 440@2000 RPM. These ratings don't match up with any of the VT 365s on International's page so it does not appear to be an "off the shelf" VT 365. Perhaps it's a VT 365 on caffeine! Don't know for sure what it is.
