I just had (am having) this same problem. Replaced fuel pump relay, worked for 3 days. Got home tonight and could not restart after solving another problem. I tapped the EEC relay and heard a click and heard the most beautiful whirr out of my fuel pump. I am going to replace the eec relay in the morning. Store out of stock tonight, but will have one mid-morning. I hope this works, if not, I may just shoot my 94 Explorer.

Put some Dielectric grease on the terminals. First time I replaced the realy I had a stretch with no problems. They came back. I used dielectric grease in the sockets before putting the relay back in. No problems now for about two years.

i had the same problem with mine it was the ecc relay but mine was oppisite mine was stuck close so every time i shut it off and let it sit over 4 hours the battery would go dead they way i figured it out was that i shut the truck off and checked amp draw and it was over a .5 amp (not good should be like .1 amp max) so i left the amp meter on and started to pull fuses under the hood and the on that stoped the draw was the eec relay fuse so i changed the relay and had no problems after that so i guess it defintly can go both ways glad you fixed it

We helped a guy fix his Explorer himself, and it cost him $6.35.

I truly love this site!

Actually, two guys! I fixed mine with the advice found here. Major problem solved for $20.00, I replaced both the Fuel Pump and EEC relay to make sure it was fixed right.

Hey, found this site through google and then found that you were having the same problems as me. Went and bought 2 relays for $12 and it looks like the problem is solved. Hope you have had the same success.
