Fuel tank filter? Replace?

I saw this add on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2470196939

Anyone know, is this for real? How can you replace the filter on the end of the pickup tube? The tube doesn't come out as far as I know. Or does it?

We are talking about the behind the seat tank, I assume?

Thanks......

That doesn't look like a filter to me. And I've never heard of the tube coming out (without cutting anyway). Maybe it does on those models?

That's just a screen for the end of the fuel sending unit pick up tube. It's definitely not a filter in the sense that it should be changed on a regular basis. Besides, most fuel filters are in a easier accessible location. This one implies that you'll need to pull the fuel sending unit each time to change it. What for? All the contaminants will not actually be contained in that screen like a filter element. Car fuel sending units are usually harder to access because in most cases, you'll need to drop the tank.

Ok, so to change it, one pulls the sending unit (no problem, already done that) and then? The fuel pickup tube is WAY down there. I am no clutz, but my hand is too big and I don't have a needle nose pliers that long!!

That's also known as a sock. The cars have the pickup tube going thru the big hole along with the sending unit, all one piece.

Yeah, BB is right. Actually you're all right. I was looking at this last weekend because I thought it was removable, but it is not. So is there a screen on the end of the pu tube? I was considering blowing compressed air back through the pu tube and into the tank to clear any debris that might have accumulated. But I solved my problem before I got that desparate and it runs fine now.

My truck is a 69 F250 with a similar fuel pump, and the screen was removable (maybe it wasnt supposed to be removable)

If you could get to it, it's probably removable. On my '71s they are not accessable without cutting it out.
