The service manager said that there were 2 different harness' for the F-150 gauges/instrument panel: One for the XLT-through Lariat, and one that was for the XL and STX, and said harness was not "wired" for a tach in the STX and XL.
In looking at my last post, it looked as though i had implied that the STX and XL use a different harness for each. They may, but have no ideal if they do.
All i was trying to do was find out if the XLT ( or whatever ) gauges could be put in a STX/XL to get a "Factory" tach.
FORD....shame on you for not putting one in there in the first place.
I think it was bad marketing and downright stupid to not put a factory tach in the STX, a truck they advertise as a "sport" model. To be honest, I could care less about a tach in my Lariat, but I have one.
I always thought that it was odd not to have a tach in the STX, almost as odd as not having the 5.4L engine as an option, would have saved me some $$$$! Talk to your local ricers they always know the best looking (sarcastic) aftermarket tachs to put in (maybe you could even mount it on the hood), if you are nice to them you might get some good advice on a big old wing for the tailgate...
