Instrument cluster with tach swap in 1993 F-150!

Has ANYONE done this swap successfully in a 1993 F-150? I have a 1993 with 5.0 and E4OD. I bought a cluster with a tach and hooked it up. Everything worked except the voltmeter. After further inspection of both clusters, I found the laminated circuit board to be different in the voltmeter area. So what changes? The circuit board or the wiring into the plug. I just would like to hear of someone that did it. I bought the cluster from someone that had a 95 and said this was from a 93. He believe it had to be same year to make the swap. When he hooked it up on his 95 the voltmeter did not work and the alternator would not charge. I cleaned all contacts and tested gauge with 9 volt battery and it responded. The circuit has a 92 part number on it. I can't believe it changed from 92 to 93!!! My truck is a speed density system. Either the circuit board changes or the wiring to the plug changes. Would really like to hear a success story. Has to be a 92-96 story. 87-91 is a different story.

Instrument cluster with tach swap in 1993 F-150!

I did this swap in my 93 with a 93 salvage cluster. All I did was take them apart switch the speedos and plug it in. Everything worked and I didn't have to change any wiring.
(your truck or at least the cluster was probably made in late 92, hence the 92 label)

Any more questions? I may be able to help.

On the '95 cluster was the bright headlamp indicator and ABS light in the same place as your '92? If they were not in the same place, did they work ok? I have a '92, and I'm thinking about buying a cluster for a '94. Think it might work. Thanks

There is a difference in the location of the pins in the plugs between 93 and 95 because of the addition of an air bag warning system light. What you have to do is to relocate several wires in the two connectors that plug into the cluster.

The way I did it was to get a wiring diagram from my friendly Ford dealer shop -- I photocopied the diagrams from the 95 and the 93 and studied them. The color codes for the wires are the same between the years just the location changed.

Looking at the plug straight on the bottom row of pins are numbered 1-7 going left to right. The top row goes the right to left with numbers 8-14.

The LG/R wire #904 moves from location 11 in its orginal plug to number 1 on the other plug. Number 12 on the same plug is R/LG #16 must move to Number 14 on the other plug. Number 14 moves to number 13 on that plug. Numbers 2 and three must be reversed in the original plug.

So two wires move to the other plug Number 16 R/LG goes from 12 to 14 and Number 11 pin moves to number 1 pin on the other plug Circuit 904 LG/R.

It is best if you can get the original diagrams just to help you sort it out.

If you need copies I think I have them or can readily get them.

Good luck.

I'd like a copy if you still have it laying around. I'm trying to swap a 1995 lightning cluster into my 1992. The Haynes' and Chilton's repair manuals provided some information but made it look like all the years are the same...

Your likely not going to get a reply as the thread has not been touched in nearly 12 years and the guy with the diagrams you seek has not posted in over 3 years...

You need a cluster from a 92/93. 94/95 clusters were different.

92 and 93 are the same clusters. You have a 94 or 95 cluster.
A 1994 or 1995 cluster will not charge the battery when put in a 1992 or 1993 gas truck.
To make it charge you have to swap wires between the two plugs.

Subford do you have the pinout for a '97 F250 or F350? I have a '94 F250 with 460, E4OD, 4X4. My local junkyard has a '97 F350 with 460, E4OD, 4x4 with a tach cluster. Just curious if it would work.

I have the ones for a 1997 F150-F250 but not the ones for the 1997 F250-F350,
they are not listed in the Ford manuals.

The yard only wants $30 for it. I think i'll go ahead and buy it and try it out.

Thanks
