Finaly got back to the computer after thursdays surgey. I had the left 1 in feb. and the right 1 thursday. I had a chondroplasty or something that sounds like that. I have almost no cartilage left so this was done. They make holes in the ends of the bones to try and grow scare tissue to prevent the bones from rubbing together when you walk. If this doesn't work it will be replacement time. The bad part is having to stay off of it for 5 weeks. I had the torn miniscus and bakers cyst removed from both in 98 and torn cartilage in the left 1 in 83. So i have got 5 more weeks to spend sitting at home.
My grandfather has had knee surgery on both of his. Steel kneecaps in both.
The evening after he got back from his first one, (I think in late 2000) he went inside his house, sat down in his recliner, a little too hardly, and it flipped over backwards with him. The only other person there was my grandmother, but he eventually got up and was okay. That was a close one.
Well, bad news, but look at the bright side. There ain't that much to do in Hendersonville anyway.
J/K, hope the sitting around and then the rehab goes well!
You are right about that. Do you live in this part of the state?
Nah, I live just south of Charlotte, but we get up to God's country once ever now and then. We play some classic soccer against an Asheville team, and we go to a mountain house up on Beech Mt. several times a year. I also ride my bike from Marion up Mt. Mitchell a few times every year.
Take care of that knee, sounds like you've had it much rougher than I did. My ACL is doing fine, almost back to full speed.
Read all the posts here, now I have a better sense of what to expect I guess. I am at home recovering from a torn meniscus surgery on my right knee, they performed 6-8-04. I really had no idea my knee would be this swollen after surgery. I have seen reports of people with this surgery getting back on track after 8 weeks , some it took up to a year. I hope am the 8 week one, or I may not have a job to go back to,
i am sure you will recover quickly... just think positive about it. my dad had a total knee replacement on his right knee and he recovered in about 5 months. and i dont mean 5 months for the swelling and pain to go down but 5 months till he was back to full range of motion... anyway i hope you get better quickly.
Greg, I had a torn meniscus and a Baker's cyst removed from both knees in 98. It took about 10 months to get around almost normaly. I am not sure if it was the torn meniscus or the ruptured Bakers cyst that made it so bad. Good luck with the recovery. I am still
recovering from the 2 surgeries I had this spring. Just got back from vacation that was planned before surgey and it was a pain to try and get around with 2 knees that did not not want to work as well as everyone else's. Hope your recovery goes by quick.
Dad played basketball for UConn in collage. He messed his knees up then. He had problems with them ever since. At age 63 (42 years later) he had both knees replaced at the same time. He is 69 this year. According to him, his knees have not hurt at all since then. He wishes he had done them years before.
thanks guys for the well wishes, I appreciate them. I have taken alot of my good health the last 52 years for granted I guess. In the future whenever I see someone in a wheelchair or on crutches , as I am on now, my emphathy will certainly be with them. I got so used to having my blessings, I had become unaware of the simple ones, like walking upright and unassisted.
