How many of you have had knee surgeries. I am off for my 2nd one in less than 2 months and my 5th overall knee surgery. If this doesn't work the next step is replacements in both. Since I am justing starting to get around from the last 1 it may be a few days before I can get back on here.
One for me. Got pushed backwards by small car, was holding on to door just about ripped it off, but that didnt work. Was sliding me backwards feet sliding foot went in to a small hole leg snapped all the way back. Now new ACL MCL been 4 years still working I get some pain at times but it is better than it not working at all. Took a whole summer to retrain it.It gets used very hard I do heavy const, like concret work from begining to end so I am on it like 16 to 18 hours a day.
Luckily it has not happened to me yet,but my mom,in her 70`s has gone through multiple ops on her knees and then 2yrs ago had replacement surgery done on one, then went back last year and had the other one replaced, from what she tells me she only wishes that she had done this years ago, that she suffers far less now than she did for the last 10 years.
ACL replacement 9 weeks ago. Went well, used an Allograph, slight miniscus damage repaired. Began riding bike at 2 weeks, walking a mile or more at 4 weeks. Slight pain occasionally, but so does the good one every now and then. Doctor says 8 to 10 months full recovery period.
Have had both done. Left one 15 years ago, right 5 years ago. Luckily both worked right after surgery. Only problem is moderate arthritis in both knees. Probably have to have joint replacements someday. Good luck--hope it works this time.
The doctor wants to "open up" mine and see what the problem is. All the test are incunclusive. I am just a little leary about going for a surgery when they don't even know what they are going to operate on yet.
They call those 'exploratory surgeries'. Sometimes they're the only way. And sometimes, even after they're in there, they still don't know what the heck is going on. But, any opportunity to legally take illicit drugs and only have to pay the co-pay is reason enough in my book
I wouldn't let them do surgery on your knee without getting a second or even third opinion. Before going through with surgery, consult a "sports medicine" doctor to see if there is any rehab or strength training you can do instead of the surgery.
Without knowing your aches and pains its hard to know what to tell you. I coach and play soccer and have had lots of experience with knee injuries myself, plus the athletes I've worked with.
Every surgery has some risk, even the athroscopic small incision type. There are different exercises that can be performed to strengthen the quad muscles to help with the rehab process.
Of course, theres also the "RICE" method of injury care that includes: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Couple the RICE method with ibuprofen and see if that makes any type of difference. Down the road it might also be beneficial to take a supplement such as Glucosamine-Chondritin.
ACL Avulsion on my left knee with some minor meniscus damage. My ACL didn't want to give so my tibia broke instead. I guess that's what the Avulsion means. Lucky me though, rather break a bone than tear an ACL. At least the bone will heal back normal.
