Arrow electric fan is it worth it?

i live in southern california and over the summer the temp where i live gets above 100 deg, i want to get an electric fan but i was doin some research on it and noticed that they dont cool too well compared to the stock fan. there are two brands im looking at flex-a-lite and perma-cool from truckperformance.com the flex-a-lite is almost half the price of the perma-cool, what i know is the fan sizes are different. any help id appreciate it

they are worth it if you put a big enough fan on there to start with, the stock fan work great but they can pull up to 20hp from the motor, you need to look at the cfm of air flow on the electric fan, and the puller's are more efficient than the pushers. DW

I have 2 of the universal fans mounted to mine and after some playing with them, I like them. It took a while to find the right placement for the thermostat that kicks them on. It simply inserts into one of the radiator fins. I have found that putting it about 1/3 from the inlet (hot) side works the best. This way when sitting in traffic, the radiator begins to warm up and it kicks on at a relatively low temp. Then when I start moving again the airflow starts cooling the radiator, Then it shuts it off fairly quickly. You definitely want to use puller fans instead of pushers since they don't force enough air through. The only power difference I noticed is just right off of the line. Once I start moving, there was no difference in the power of my truck. I did some research and found that the type of fan clutches that are used (at least on a 1990) quit spinnning the fan any faster than about 1400 rpm, so the engine uses very little power to turn the fan after that.

well thanks for the input i desided to go with the perma-cool because it is a direct fit for the bronco so dont have to do anything special and it cools up to 5900 cfm so im pretty sure it will do good.

I installed the Flexalite #295 (dual 13.5") 4600 cfm (more than adequate) in my Bronc. Perfect fit, the universal brackets that came with the fans were easily modified for a clean mount, and they draw only 28 amps at 100%. I like that they come on at 60% and speed up to 100% as required. The power gain at the rear wheels was surprising, and the new found space in my engine compartment is an added bonus. The adjustable thermostat gives me total control over my cooling system.
There are photos in my gallery, more/better pictures and explanations on my website.

The biggest thing you need to make sure you do is have at least a 130AMP alternator in your truck! the 95 AMP alternator will struggle to keep the electric fans going.

do you happen to remember the part number and where you got it?

also, does any one have a picture of the fans installed?

I have the fans. It is a double fan set-up, 5600 cfm I believe. The fans are staged to come on one and then the other at 8 degrees higher. One will come on also when you turn on your air conditioning. These work really good. Check em out in my gallery.
