Wow

Ok, i bought the autolite Double Platinums and put them in today, and all i can say is wow......What a difference those babys make. I can actually tell i have an engine under my hood now. Maybe my gas mileage will go up too! this truck feels like it has a 4.0 in it now. before our minivan seemed more powerful, and thats a dodge. If your truck has the EDIS system, you have to have the double platinums. The regular El-Cheapo plugs are a waste of money.

Just thought i'd share the experience

That is why I always recommend Motorcraft plugs. They don't get much more expensive than that!

Has anyone tried the Bosch Platinum + 4's??? I have been considering getting some. My truck has a stutter at about 1500rpms in overdrive. Any comments welcome.

It seems most people have the best luck with the AUtolite Double platinums, especially for the price compared to the Bosch.

Or Motorcraft 2X platinums, I would stay away from those.

Motorcraft or Autolite double platinum spark plugs are your best bet. It's been proven time and again.

Also, Motorcraft now makes a "Fine Wire" platinum spark plug which is supposed to be as good or better than the double platinums. Ford now recommends these fine wire plugs as the OEM replacement in most applications that previously called for the DPs.

Bosch makes some very good automotive products, but with regard to the Ford EDIS ignition system, spark plugs are not one of them.

ken, are you saying stay away from Bosch or Motorcraft? I'm assuming you mean Bosch, but just wanted to make sure.

Yeah, stay away from bosch if you have the EDIS system. Get Double platinums, well worth the money! and remember, its also the reccomended plug on the emissions label

my truck has 70k on it, and has probably never had a tune up. you think it will make that big of a difference.

Im not sure about when the last tune up was since i bought it from my step-grandpa who only knows how to check the gas guage. I dont know if the previous owner ever did, but either way it was a long time ago.

There's not much to do for a tune up but I would pull the plugs and inspect/replace them. If you don't pull them out they could get seized in there, make sure you use anti-seize on them before you put them back. Also put dielectric grease inside the wire boots.
