My question is as follows. Will a rock ram work without backpressure in the steering system. Will it still work if the steering box shaft breaks? I know simply having it will reduce the chances of breakage but does anyone know if it will still work??
I'm thinking seriously about putting one of those on my truck.
FWIW, I was looking into getting the AGR Rock Ram for my truck........but haven't recieved a lot of positive info on it. There is a local guy who has it and likes it, but then I've also read stuff like This Thread . I did call AGR once to get some info and they weren't of much help.........all he told me was exactly what is on their webpage.
WHen cross over steering is done right it will take most of the load away from the sector shaft. I would think that hoping that the truck would still steer with a ran assist if the sector shaft breaks is pretty risky. When the sector shaft breaks you drag link will drop and most likly get jammed on the spring and bind the steering anyway. If you look at what you are trying to achive the croos-over steering would be first to get. Ram assist will help take load off the sector shaft as well but its a machanical bandaid fix the way you are looking at it. Ram assist should be there to help move the bigger tires better. Just my 2 cents.
I saw that Chris. It looks like they just come with tabs you have to weld to your tie rod and axle housing though. I'm sure I could figure something out.
I have looked into it but even though locked front and rear I have not had a spot yet where I needed that hydraulic oomph to push a rock out of the way. If I ever do I want to try and convert my King Steering stabilizer into a ram and then buy the redneck ram steering box.
