I have a 76 250 w/ 390. It has leaf springs in front and rear and the front has been arched about 3 inches. I take my truck off roading and its a stiff ride. My main problem is that where i live i go out to some sand drags that arnt really legal. and out there the road isnt so flat. about half way down the track theres little woops that my truck just takes a beating on and i was wondering if there was anyway that i could improve my truck on the suspension catagory so i still have all my change in my pockets by the end of the race. i know its not gonna be a caddilac but any sugestions would be helpful. also i've been in my buddies b4000 and that thing rides like a dream off road im guessin the indipendant front suspension makes up for that. thanks for the help
Are you willing to put on different springs and shocks? Because thats the only thing that will make a significant difference in a mid 70's 3/4 tons susp.
For the springs, you can have a spring shop build you new packs with more leafs that are also thinner, so they ride softer but still retain thier weight carrying strength.
plenty o' options.
The big factor is, how much money are you willing to spend?
Dual-rate coilovers with Bilstien Nitrogen shocks (dont know any model numbers) would create quite a nice ride, but the coil overs and the conversion would cost a lot.
You could also buy a 4" lift kit that was designed to be softer, but then your going to have a lot more body roll, and thats no good when our going fast.
You could just add some really fancy shocks and do a dual hoop shock setup.
Or you could do that and a soft-riding lift and thatd also be smooth.
ya i thought i ordered that duel hoop set up once from 4wheel parts but they sent me the wrong one and then when i called back they said they didnt carry it. i havnt been able to find a duel hoop set up for the socks for my year and style. many places have told me they dont exist. also i was looking at a coil over set up by skyjacker that just came up. as of now im trying to weigh out my options.
the 4inch lifts ride rougher than stock....the best way to get a smooth ride and i mean rel smooth, is put soe rear lift springs from a 73-96 f-150 in the front, they will bolt right in, but push your axle foward about 3 inches
Ho, is there a way to swap in that rear spring without pushing the axle forward? Tires already tend to sit rather close to the front edge so, other than Mr. Sawzall, I was wondering if there's a way to do that swap and keep the axle centered in the wheel well.
