Ok i am looking at a 2000 Expy. 4wd. V8 automatic with a little over 100k and the guy is asking $10k for it. I was wanting to know if that is a decent price, and what should i be looking for besides the oil leak? Heres a link
Well, for starters, is it a 4.6L or a 5.4L? Does it have the tow package? Third row seat? What options? I looked at the link, and he doesn't give much info. I felt like $10K is a bit high...I ran a blue book check (http://www.kbb.com) on it, with a 4.6L, 100K +miles, and standard XLT options, they said $14K. I think that's WAY HIGH. So maybe 10K is fair. That certainly makes me feel better about my trade-in value
Look for broken swaybar links, tranny shifting issues, the oil leak, any idling problems or hesitation while accelerating...hmm...anything else?
Oh yeah, do a search on buying used expedition. You'll get lots of advice.
If it's a good looking, clean truck, I'd say $10K is not a bad price for a 4x4, but the truck in the picture is not a 2000 model unless it has been wrecked and got a '97 or '98 replacement front end. Like Dean said, check really thoroughly for the head gasket leak (could be a moot point if it's a '98 model) and idle problems. These seem to be major concerns.
The tenth digit in the VIN is "Y" which denotes the 2000 model year. Take a good look at the pic, BTW, 1997-98 bumper positioned under 2000-2002 grille (1999 had silver-colored mesh. Looks like it may have banged something.
Well the trade in value is approx 8500 for that vehicle in good condition. Considering reconditioning costs 10K would be somewhere close to the ballpark you can expect to pay. I would highly recommend getting it checked over thoroughly by a competent technician with that many miles. My 2000 EB with only 50K needed lower ball joints, rear axle seal, Mach system subwoofer, brakes, wheel bearings, trans service and all the normal maintenance items done to it for resale.

Better yet, keep looking. This is not a low production vehicle. Maybe older, but with less mileage, one owner, with all body parts matching the year of manufacture.
