The dealership has done all the work on this Expedition with the exception of the brake job I didn two weeks ago. Quit cooling last August (not good in Houston)...dealer fixed 'cross over line?'....$300 bucks, plus or minus..don't remember. Quit cooling again in October.....replaced compressor and all related....$1500, plus or minus...don't remember. Quit cooling again last week. Vehicle dropped off yesterday for 90,000 mile service, etc....and to check A/C. Got the call that the evaporator coil has a leak....$1115. Asked the service writer to pull my history and get with his manager and call me back....looks to me like they mis-diagnosed a problem twice before and let's see what we can work out. Called back in less than 30 minutes and asked me to cover the first $200 and the dealership and Ford would ante up the rest. Done...should be ready today. Planet Ford, Houston.
Evaporator leaks are pretty rare, so that could have been easily overlooked if the rest of they system was fubar. Good to see Ford took care of it properly. You should have a dependable system for some time to come. Knock on wood.
This has been a great ride, A/C's are absolutely used year round here. I have no complaints with this dealership, one of the best I've ever dealt with and this includes Mercedes (which I thought were the best). I'll keep this truck for several more years.
Update. Service writer called at 3:30pm yesterday to give me good news/bad news....A/C was repaired (good news)...but couldn't align front end after rotating tires(tires were cupped, which led to a 'noise') due to bad uppper ball joints(bad news)...OK (I suspected this)...how much?...$416...OK, how long to repair?...we'll get on it now...OK, do it. Picked up vehicle at 5:15 pm. Sigh...90,000 mile service, changed plugs, A/C evaporator coil replace, rotate tires, front end alignment, uppper control arm (both sides) and uppper ball joints replaced....$1525 total. Good for another 90,000.
