What a great site!!! I'm new here and have a question about the speedometer on my 99 F150 4x4 (4.6L). It has 169,000 miles and my speedometer is sticking. It is very jumpy from 0 to 40 and then it just sticks on 40mph when I accelerate above that speed.
It just started happening last night. I'm not sure if there is something simple that I need to check? Am I causing further problems by driving it over 40mph with it stuck?
I dont think you're hurting anything by driving it like that. Does the transmission shift ok still (if it's an auto)? If it shifts ok then the speed signal is getting to the PCM ok and your problem is probably the speedo itself. I doubt it could be fixed. It would probably have to be replaced.
