I am want to put manual hubs on my 87 Bronco. I went to NAPA thay said that the manual hubs will not work on '87 flang mount'.
How do I tell if mine are flang mount or not?
i ahve a 87" with flange mount hubs, if you remove your front wheel and you have flang mount hubs, then the whole hub asy. will come right off in your hand, it's held on by the wheel it self, but mine are manual, so you may be able to check some bone yards for some manual ones, im not shure if they make the after markey flange ones, mine where on it when i bought it. another option would be to change out the whole spindle asy, but i have benn told by two reputable 4X4 shops that it would be just as easy to swap out the whole axle unit as to change just the spindles, kinda sounds like a pain in the A.. to me, Good luck, let me know what you find out. DW
If its the little one on the right, then you have the flange mount. You can get both from WARN. Check with NAPA again. They should be able to get you both styles.
BillyBob69 ; thanks billybob, i'll keep that in mind i hadnt looked for them aftermarket cuz mine are manual and they still work for now so why replace them right? Thanx. DW
I will be doing the conversion in the AM. I'll just pick up both sets of hubs and return the ones that I don't use. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks....
Tidybowlman0; look at the end of you hubs if it has little screws around the end of the hub then there regular hubs, if there are no screws around the end then there flange mount. DW
Well I started the conversion but I cant find the retaining ring. I think that it should be on the end of the axle shaft. for some reason I can't see it (must be getting old).
If I use a gear puller to pull out the body of the hub do you think I'll screw up the axle shaft?
I have never done this conversion my self but i'll tell what a read in the link posted above, once you get the cap off there should be a snap ring around the end of the axle shaft that you need to remove with snap ring pliers, then there should be a C-clip ring in a grove on the inside of the hub housing and it will be kinda hard to see take a rag and wipe it good to remove the grease so you can see it, when you have these two rings removed you should be able to work the asymbly out.
look at this link that billybod posted for you! https://www.ford-trucks.com/lc/lc.ph...balljoint.html
GOOD LUCK DW
That big ring is kind of tricky, you'll need two small screw driver's and a light to find the gap on that ring. Once you find that gap use the small screwdriver's and pry that ring out. You don't force that ring out but it's tricky to get out.
