hey guys, i have been into car audio for a few years now and have limited experience with equiptment. My current project is a custom fiberglass box for behind the seat of a f 150 reg cab for two 10's or 12's i am having custom compotents made from madisound but i am not sure what to do for amplification. I want an amp that has no built in crossover that doesnt add color, just clean quality amplification. Anyone have any suggestions for an amp of this nature
you are probably looking for a digital amp
I large number of top SQ competitors use the Pioneer premier ODR
equipment--this type equip. uses fiberoptic interconnects and utilizes a seperate headunit\eq\amps
the problem with this digital equipment is that you need to use all the same brand for compatibility and its a huge price tag
the next step down would be to use class A amps.
these are the cleanest class of the analog type amps
they are not very power effecient but do yeild good SQ
also remember you get what you pay for
has far as choosing brands you would have to shop around

These are the amps that I use in my SQ car
Im not trying to push a brand on you --just for reference
these are class A amps
things to look at are obviosly power ratings--but for you more importantly are signal to noise ratio and total harmonic distortion--these numbers will play a large roll in how clean your amp and sound will be
use this info to compare some different amps

That does have some impressive numbers but im not to sure about the connectability you speak of. I already have a high end alpine head unit with no amp in the HU. would i have to buy a diff head unit to run this amp? are you saying they have HU's with optical or digital out?? that would be nice also i am having custom crossovers designed to the speakers that i am buying. Wont the built in variable crossovers color the sound? i want something that is just a straight amplifierso i can use an external crossover
nope- that is amp I showed you is a class A analog amp
you connect with RCA--your unit would work fine
you should plan on using a quality twisted pair RCA cable(s)
The crossovers will be found on most all amplifiers
but are bypass able--I personally prefer to use all electronic adjustable filters before the amp--this is personal preference
hope this helps you
try checking out alpines website--Im sure they have some decent SQ amps

Thanks alot, do they actually have decks and amps that use digital or optical outs and ins? that would be nice. But like i said i have already purchased a nice alpine deck and i ran 3 sets or rca's monster cables twisted nice cables but now that im thinking about it digital might be nice and it is probably the direction car audio is heading
yes they do have head units and amps etc... that have optical outs and ins
I spent about 13,000 on the current system Im using -and like I said Im using the class A amps
if I went with the odr setup or digital I would have been closer to the 20k mark
Dont get me wrong though---you can have an excellent sounding system with regular type equipment your using---once you chose a good amp(s) there are some more important things such as speaker cofiguration and placement
so you are having speakers built or having custom enclosure or pods made?
where do you find out the class of an amplifier and what class where my older amps? MTX 1000D ... alpine v12 .... emerson (crapper)
That linear power t03 looks like something i could do but i am never too sure about any company with a cheesy website!
Having owned their equipment for many years, I never gave it much thought, but LP's site IS pretty corny. Trust me though, they will do anything to make you happy. What I love is that they have never compromised anything to try to appeal to the masses. For the price, their quality is second to none and you can buy direct at 40% off their listed MSRP.
MOst amplifiers, high end or not, have built inm crossover capabilities. However, most can be switched off, or set at a level in which it shouldnt effect the passthrough frequencies that you require. What pwer specs did you have in mind for the amp? I could recommend several very nice amps to point you in the right direction.
Not to get Richard Clark-ian on you, but once you get to the upper echelon of amps, I would bet the ranch you couldn't tell the difference between any two, like powered amps. Brands to look at:

Expect to pay a pretty penny, though.
luvdeftonz, I would agree with your statement. Of course there are always "golden ears" who can hear differences that don't even exist.
I have an alpine Head Unit in my truck also (CDA 7998). I had them mount the largest 4 channel amp that MTX makes to power to power the 2 speakers in the front and for the 2 in the rear I put the largest 2 channel amp they make to power my two subs in the rear. I'm very happy with the sound quality. If your looking for something more "high end" for an amplifier you may want to consider Zapco (I'm not sure if I spelled the name correctly). I've heard one of there amps hooked up to a pair of MB Quart "Q" Series speakers and a pair of Focal Utopia speakers and both sounded excellent to me but I'm still partial to my Polk MOMO's even though there considered to be to bright to a few listeners.
thanks for the suggestions, brianas asked about speakers. I am buying components from madisound (woofer and tweeter) and they are buiding the crossovers for those components i also am planning on two tens in a custom fiberglass box built by me for my regular cab.
Linear Power i guess a web site can only say so much, but a satisfied customer can say much more, i like the idea of buying direct and also it is very nice that the company you order from is actually the company that made the product! what have you purchased from them?
