Sorry I didnt post this sooner there is a wire to splice into under the dash. Take the acces cover off above the gas pedal. there is a wire harness in there whith snap connecter. the wire in the very center is the dimmer switch wire. this wont help you, but maybe the next person. I guess for anybody that ask for gauges in the future we should steer them to the complete gauge set-up designed for these diesels. I have the banks gages. they came with everthing needed to do the complete install. They also sent very good instructions.
I agree. We probably should steer them to a dealer who provides the whole required kit. I might have thought I was saving some money but the end result in extra parts, running around, and my extra time was not worth it. My instructions are pretty poor. Very generic. Luck for me I'm and engineer and figure out most stuff.
I do however wonder why there is a dimmer wire down by the gas pedal. Maybe if you push too hard the lights go out
I did all of the research and I went with Autometer for one very specific reason. Selection. Autometer offers a dozen or more different syles of gauges. It gave my the option of picking exactly which gauge face I wanted to be staring at for my 18 hour road trips. I, personally, did not like the way the Banks gauges looked. Nor was I huge on the ISSPRO gauges. I do not like the colors in them. I wanted something basically black and white. I only want to look at the gauges when I want to look at them, not because green, yellow and red are jumping out at me. So that it why I went with the Autometer Z Series gauges. I am sure I am the minority here, but that is my reasoning, for what it is worth. I actually would have bought them from someone else had there been some gauge face variety. I knew I was going to have to fabricate a few things in order to get the job done, but for me it was worth it.

I agree. I also bought the Autometer strickly because I had a choice of looks. I choose the Phantoms. I really didn't mind the extra work and I have learned alot about my truck along the way also....
I'm sorry if I came off sounding like Everybody should buy banks kits. What I was trying to say is there are alot of shops that sell a complete gage package for your spececifc application, wether it be, Issipro, banks, western diesel, autometer, dipricol,or bullydog. companys like motorhaven sell complete packages that include pod, gages ,wires, tubes, and aplication specific instructions. So that you dont have to go running around for this stuff after you have your truck half dissassembled. Rather than trying to piece this stuff together yourself or trying to rip the light swith out when there is a much eiser way. Hope this info is helpful. Jerry.

No, I didn't take it that way. I ordered from a reputable supplier specifically for an 04. I guess each has thier own definition of "kit" huh?
Well they are Autometer gauges and came sealed in the package. Maybe someone here has used these gauges (Phantom) before and had the same problem? I don't want to say who I bought them from if it's not their fault. It just looks like Autometer didn't put in the tee............or long enough tubing.
Home depot or any hardware store has tees and 1/8 compression fittings and line.
My Auto Meter (Pro Comp Ultra Lite)gages (boost and oil pressure)had plenty of line. I ran mine through the steering column gromet and then on top of the metal cowel extension that runs across the top of the back of the engine. Just keep it away from the turbo.
Well, I called two Ford dealers today. One said "all we can get is touch up paint in the little bottles". The second took the time to some research and came up with the P/N for the spray lacquer for Medium Parchment. M4JZ-19M547-1077H for those that might want it. Out of stock, don't know how long it would take.
At lunch I went to my local auto paint store. They showed me Lt Parchement, Med Parchment, Dark Parchment. Now I have two tones in the interior so I am confused as to which is which. The lady in the paint store was real nice. She said bring in the piece and we will match it and put in a spray can for you for $15. So at least it looks like I will be able to complete the job this week anyway. When I get the number of the paint I will post it.

Thanks, I picked up a compression coupler at lunch at Advance. I probably could have made the one work but I wanted to hide as much of it as possible so my routing may not have been the most direct route. I came through the gromet where on the main electrical harnesses came through. I poked a little hole with an ice pick.
I fabricated my pods from 2" Plastic pipe and sprayed them with Krylon (gray)from the hardware store. Check out my photos. I need the handle to hoist my crippled body into the truck so I opted to mount on the top of the dash.

That looks really good Bob. You did a VERY good job. I have looked everywhere for a paint close to mine but I will have it mixed tomorrow as nothing was close.
I did make some gauge mounts for my tractors but they are just flat metal with holes..........
i was wondering what the cost of gauge kit was...(3 gauges)...i want to put them on my 6.0 and am just tryin to get some ideas of what product to choose and how much they cost...thanks a lot

With Autometer gauges you can plan on around $300 with the A-pillar pod mount for three gauges. This is not installed of course.
