I have a problem with my 79 Bronco power brakes. The problem is there is none. I replaced the master cylinder and bled the brakes likes. Still no brakes. Pedel is better but pedel will still goes to the floor hard. I was told it could be the power brake booster. Does any one agree with this or is there something else I should look at?
Wait a sec im confused. Is the pedal soft or hard? If its hard is there a hissing noise coming from under the dash somewhere when you hit the brakes? If so that would be the brake booster and it needs to be replaced. If the brakes are still going to the floor and the pedal is soft. You may have some air in the system still or maybe you got your hands on a defective master cylindar. You also may want to check the adjustment on the rear brakes. I hope this helps.
You may have a leak in the brake caliper. If you have two reservoir on your master cylinder (one for the front and one for the rear), check the larger reservoir and see if its low on fluid.
Sometimes the caliper would just leak out very slowly and allows air to get in.
I have a similar issue with our 1982 Ford E150 5.8L V8, the brake pedal goes all the way down. I was thinking the master cylinder but when I open the brake pedal reservoir cap, the reservoir for the rear brake is still full but the reservoir for the front brake is empty. I'm in the process to check the front calipers and trace the front brake lines for leaks.

With the engine off :
Pump the brake pedal 4 times and Hold it there without moving your leg.
Does the pedal Gradually go to the floor ?
Does it go to the floor quickly ?
Next test
Pump the brake pedal 4 times & Hold .
Now without moving your foot off the brake <> Start the truck >
What happens to the pedal ?
Before you go replacing the brake booster also check for vacum leaks in the engine compartment if the pedal is hard to push but does move to the floor. Just my $.02
I have the same problem I replaced the master cylindar and the booster bled the brakes and i can push the pedal to the floor but it will not come back I temperarly fixed it with a strong spring hooked to the bottom of the dash and the pedal but would like to fix it properly. I also checked for vacume leaks but didn't find any. So any one with suggestions?
Any vehicle I've had with brakes that go to the floor and don't come back had air in the line. Don't drive it like that. While it may work for now one day you will hit the brakes and nothing will happen. You could end up hitting a pregnant women driving an M5 with young kids in the back. Then you can forget about affording insurance ever again. Take the master cylinder off and bench bleed it again. Install and fill. Then get a buddy or a one person bleeder setup and bleed the brakes(all 4) then test the brakes at idle in gear. Make sure there is a curb a few feet in front of you. make sure you check the fluid level during the bleeding and after the test. If the level is low after the test then check for a leak. Check the wheel cylinders in the back to see if they are leaking. Hope this helps.
